Check out the upcoming March and April 2023 Price Increase proposals from suppliers/ manufacturers - including Concrete, Aggregates, Asphalt and Manufacturer increases.
It would seem that Ready Mix Concrete overall is having the largest increases with between £8 -12.00 per M/3 increases. Having already exploded into the three digits before the decimal place (£100.00 rather than £80.00 per M/3!!!) from 2 years ago, there seems to be no stopping on where this is going.
Also, suppliers seem to be tightening down on the cancellation charges/ waiting time charges. Whilst this has started happening even with aggregates, it is the concrete that has made the most changes to its 'terms & conditions' to cover their costs.
As the industry always knew, you could book concrete 'provisionally' - meaning that if un-foreseen circumstances occur then the concrete could be cancelled/ called off very last minute- say the morning of delivery.
Most suppliers are now adding into their Terms & Conditions that concrete that is cancelled 'later than 3pm the day before delivery is due' will incur £10.00 - £15.00 per M/3 charges. Whilst the Nationals have had this in their T's & C's for a long time, it is now working its way into the smaller independents terms. It is still unclear how this would affect 'Provisional' orders - and we have noticed that almost all concrete suppliers aim to have 'provisional' orders confirmed for the next day by 3pm.
Whilst the T's & C's state the cancellation terms, there is always the 'get-out-of-jail free card' of Force Majeure - events beyond your control which is a two way statement in almost all contracts - So, if for example, trenches collapse/ fall in due to extreme weather this would classify as Force Majeure (events beyond anyone's control) and it would be extremely unreasonable for a supplier to push home the cancellation charges.
Hopefully this will be the last Price Increase list of 2023, but watch this space....
