What do we do to get great prices and strong working relationships?

At KJB Procurement Ltd we hold the relationships with suppliers at the pinnacle of what we do. We build mutual trust and strong relationships, so the suppliers know they can be open with us and therefore when something goes wrong (which it will at times, we are all human!) we get a truthful explanation from them and they work to resolve the issue so as too reinstate the relationship we hold. We do this on behalf of our customers within the group, which means all customers of KJB Procurement Ltd will get the same level of importance regardless of spend and turnover.

Here is some of what we do to get the best prices;

1. Clear, concise information on every order to be placed. We know, from experience, what information is required for most materials and therefore have this covered off with the site managers at the point of order - the same as good communication between Site managers and buying teams for bigger companies. Leading to an 'easy life' for the supplier, and therefore prices that reflect that ease.

2. With orders backed up in writing through Purchase Orders and, at the least, an individual order number. This allows the order details to be tracked from point of order through to delivery from the supplier. This reduces the risk of incorrect deliveries holding up the site, and holds accountability to where in the chain the error has happened, so all parties can learn from what’s happened. Admin / paperwork is the gold nugget in construction. Whichever side can produce more records than the other usually gets the best result (this doesn't just stop with procurement!!).

3. Whilst we work hard to strive for the best deal, we don’t engage with back and forward negotiations - such as the view of ‘Ok they came down a bit, now go back to the first one and ask them to drop again’ and then rinse and repeat that process. We work on longer term acts of trust, whereby we will always provide feedback to any supplier who wants to understand why a particular order did not go their way. This means they all understand that they should be as keen as possible from the initial enquiry, to improve price, service or communications - all of which are equally important in securing great prices and service for the future.
